A bill for an act
proposing an amendment to the Minnesota Constitution,
article VII, by adding a section; providing for
certain officers to be elected by a majority of the
votes cast for the office.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT.

new text begin An amendment to the Minnesota Constitution is proposed to
the people. If the amendment is adopted, the new section will
read as follows:

new text begin Sec. 10. The legislature shall provide by law for a
mechanism that insures that in order to be elected to any single
member district office, executive officers, judges, senators,
and representatives must receive a majority of the votes cast
for the office sought.

Sec. 2. new text begin SCHEDULE AND QUESTION.

new text begin The proposed amendment shall be submitted to the people at
the 2006 general election. The question submitted shall be:

new text begin "Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to require
that executive officers, judges, and legislators must be elected
by a majority of the vote cast for the office sought?
