  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; restoring categorical funding 
  1.3             for pupil transportation to and from school; 
  1.4             appropriating money; amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, 
  1.5             section 123B.92, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 123B.92, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 1a.  [REGULAR TRANSPORTATION AID.] Beginning in 
  1.10  fiscal year 2000, a school district is eligible for categorical 
  1.11  transportation aid.  The aid amount equals the district's actual 
  1.12  expenditures for regular transportation, as defined in 
  1.13  subdivision 1, paragraph (b), clause (1), for the prior year 
  1.14  times the ratio of the district's average daily membership in 
  1.15  the current year to its average daily membership in the 
  1.16  preceding year. 
  1.17     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.18     $....... is appropriated in fiscal year 2000 and $....... 
  1.19  is appropriated in fiscal year 2001 from the general fund to the 
  1.20  commissioner of children, families, and learning for regular 
  1.21  transportation aid payments to school districts.
