  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to telecommunications; requiring instant 
  1.3             credit for wrong information from directory 
  1.4             assistance; amending Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 
  1.5             237.01, by adding a subdivision; proposing coding for 
  1.6             new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 237. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 237.01, is 
  1.9   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 8.  [LOCAL EXCHANGE CARRIER.] "Local exchange carrier"
  1.11  means a telephone company or telecommunications carrier 
  1.12  providing local exchange service. 
  1.13     Sec. 2.  [237.155] [CREDIT FOR INCORRECT DIRECTORY 
  1.14  ASSISTANCE.] 
  1.15     A local exchange carrier that provides directory assistance 
  1.16  to customers for a fee, either directly or by contracting with a 
  1.17  third party, must provide for an immediate credit to a customer 
  1.18  that informs the directory assistance provider that the provider 
  1.19  has given the customer incorrect information for which the 
  1.20  provider charged the customer a fee.
