A bill for an act
relating to employment; limiting application to certain minors of certain
collective bargaining provisions; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota
Statutes, chapter 181A.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin [181A.065] MEMBERSHIP IN LABOR ORGANIZATION.

new text begin (a) Notwithstanding any law or rule to the contrary, the following provisions do not
apply to an employee who is a high school student under the age of 18:

new text begin (1) a provision of a collective bargaining agreement between an employer and a
labor organization that requires membership in the labor organization or the payment of
the equivalent of union dues as a condition of employment; and

new text begin (2) a provision of a collective bargaining agreement between an employer and a
labor organization that requires an employee to work for or be scheduled to work for a
specified minimum number of hours per week.

new text begin (b) For the purposes of this section, "labor organization" has the meaning given it
in section 179.01, subdivision 6.
