  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to the military; providing for disposition of 
  1.3             closed armories; requiring a report. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [SALE OF CLOSED ARMORIES.] 
  1.6      Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 193.36, an 
  1.7   armory that is closed by the adjutant general between the 
  1.8   effective date of this section and July 1, 2001, must be 
  1.9   disposed of as provided in this section.  
  1.10     The adjutant general shall offer the armory property for 
  1.11  sale to the person who makes the highest bid for the property 
  1.12  that is considered fair and reasonable by the adjutant general.  
  1.13  If the adjutant general receives no fair and reasonable bids, 
  1.14  the adjutant general shall reopen the bidding as many times as 
  1.15  is necessary to sell the armory property. 
  1.16     The adjutant general shall submit a report to the governor 
  1.17  and the legislature by January 1, 2001, on implementation of 
  1.18  this section.  The report must detail armory sales, amounts of 
  1.19  money received from buyers, uses to which armories have been 
  1.20  put, increases in local property tax bases because of armory 
  1.21  sales, and any other information that would be useful in 
  1.22  evaluating this section. 
  1.23     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.24     Section 1 is effective July 1, 1996.
