  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to transit; authorizing a study of bus 
  1.3             transit ways; prohibiting a bus transit way in part of 
  1.4             the southwest light rail transit corridor; amending 
  1.5             Laws 2000, chapter 479, article 1, section 3, 
  1.6             subdivision 3. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Laws 2000, chapter 479, article 1, section 3, 
  1.9   subdivision 3, is amended to read: 
  1.10  Subd. 3.  Bus Transit Ways                            6,300,000
  1.11  For engineering, design, and 
  1.12  construction of bus transit ways, 
  1.13  including, but not limited to, 
  1.14  acquisition of land and rights-of-way.  
  1.15  This appropriation is available until 
  1.16  spent. 
  1.17  Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.18  chapter 398A, relating to regional 
  1.19  railroad authorities, the metropolitan 
  1.20  council may conduct a study of bus 
  1.21  transit ways in the northwest light 
  1.22  rail transit corridor in Hennepin 
  1.23  county, and in that part of the 
  1.24  southwest light rail transit corridor 
  1.25  in and between the cities of Hopkins 
  1.26  and Minneapolis.  The study must 
  1.27  consider alternative alignments of the 
  1.28  bus transit ways, using existing roads, 
  1.29  highways, and transportation facilities 
  1.30  in conjunction with the light rail 
  1.31  transit corridors.  The metropolitan 
  1.32  council must not study, engineer, 
  1.33  design, or construct a bus transit way 
  1.34  in any part of the southwest light rail 
  1.35  transit corridor that is in the city of 
  1.36  Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, or Chanhassen.
