  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to public safety; authorizing cities to 
  1.3             prohibit carrying firearms on city property; providing 
  1.4             penalties; amending Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 
  1.5             624.714, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 624.714, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 18a.  [POSTING; TRESPASS; CITY PROPERTY.] (a) A 
  1.10  person carrying a firearm on or about his or her person or 
  1.11  clothes under a permit issued or recognized under this section 
  1.12  may not enter property owned, leased, or controlled by any 
  1.13  statutory or charter city if the property has been clearly 
  1.14  posted by the city indicating that it is city property and that 
  1.15  firearms are not allowed.  A person who violates this paragraph 
  1.16  is guilty of a misdemeanor. 
  1.17     (b) For purposes of this subdivision, "clearly posted" 
  1.18  means: 
  1.19     (1) for purposes of a building or structure, a sign with 
  1.20  lettering at least one inch in height posted at every public 
  1.21  entrance; or 
  1.22     (2) for purposes of other city property, signs with 
  1.23  lettering at least two inches in height posted in conspicuous 
  1.24  places at intervals of 500 feet or less. 
  1.25     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.1      Section 1 is effective May 28, 2003.
