  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to veterans; providing free tuition to 
  1.3             certain military veterans at public colleges and 
  1.4             universities; appropriating money. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [VETERANS; NO TUITION.] 
  1.7      Any person who as a member of the United States Armed 
  1.8   Forces has served honorably in active military service in 
  1.9   Operation Iraqi Freedom, whether in a combat or support role, 
  1.10  and who was a Minnesota resident at the time of entry into 
  1.11  active military service, is eligible to attend any Minnesota 
  1.12  public college or university free of tuition.  The term "active 
  1.13  military service" has the meaning given in Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.14  section 190.05, subdivision 5c. 
  1.15     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.16     $....... is appropriated from the general fund to the board 
  1.17  of regents of the University of Minnesota for fiscal years 2004 
  1.18  and 2005 for the purpose described in section 1. 
  1.19     $....... is appropriated from the general fund to the board 
  1.20  of trustees of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities for 
  1.21  fiscal years 2004 and 2005 for the purpose described in section 
  1.22  1.
