  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to crime; providing that certain acts 
  1.3             relating to dog and cat fur is a crime; imposing a 
  1.4             criminal penalty; amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, 
  1.5             section 325F.792, subdivision 1. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 325F.792, 
  1.8   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [CRIMINAL PENALTY.] (a) A violation of any 
  1.10  United States Department of Agriculture statute or regulation 
  1.11  covering animal breeders or groomers, pet dealers, or the 
  1.12  transportation of dogs or cats is a misdemeanor. 
  1.13     (b) A person who (1) sells, or possesses or purchases with 
  1.14  intent to sell, any dog or cat fur or wearing apparel containing 
  1.15  dog or cat fur, or (2) labels dog or cat fur or wearing apparel 
  1.16  containing dog or cat fur with intention to mislead or deceive 
  1.17  purchasers as to the source of the animal providing the fur, is 
  1.18  guilty of a misdemeanor. 
  1.19     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.20     Section 1 is effective August 1, 1999, and applies to 
  1.21  crimes committed on or after that date.
