  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to transit; appropriating money for transit 
  1.3             improvements in the University Avenue corridor in St. 
  1.4             Paul.  
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION; UNIVERSITY AVENUE CORRIDOR 
  1.7   TRANSIT IMPROVEMENTS.] 
  1.8      (a) $....... is appropriated from the general fund for 
  1.9   fiscal year 2002 to the metropolitan council for transit 
  1.10  improvements in and around the University Avenue corridor in St. 
  1.11  Paul.  
  1.12     (b) Of this appropriation: 
  1.13     (1) $....... is for a circulator bus system using buses 
  1.14  with a capacity of up to 15 passengers, operating within the 
  1.15  area bounded by Lexington Parkway, Como Avenue, Western Avenue, 
  1.16  and University Avenue.  The council shall ensure that the design 
  1.17  of the system is compatible with eventual use as a feeder system 
  1.18  for light rail transit and commuter rail transit in and around 
  1.19  the corridor. 
  1.20     (2) $....... is for equipping metro transit regular route 
  1.21  buses that operate on the University Avenue corridor with 
  1.22  systems that allow bus operators to activate a green traffic 
  1.23  signal at major intersections on that corridor. 
  1.24     (3) $....... is for heating, lighting, and other 
  1.25  improvements to bus shelters at the intersections of Dale Street 
  2.1   and Lexington Parkway with University Avenue.
