  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to game and fish; requiring financial 
  1.3             security in connection with certain fishing contests; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 97C.081, 
  1.5             subdivision 3. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 97C.081, 
  1.8   subdivision 3, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 3.  [CONTESTS AUTHORIZED BY COMMISSIONER.] The 
  1.10  commissioner may, by rule or permit, allow fishing contests with 
  1.11  entry fees over $10 per person or total prizes valued at more 
  1.12  than $2,000.  
  1.13     If entry fees are over $25 per person, or total prizes are 
  1.14  valued at more than $25,000, and if the applicant has either: 
  1.15     (1) not previously conducted a fishing contest requiring a 
  1.16  permit under this subdivision; or 
  1.17     (2) ever failed to make required prize awards in a fishing 
  1.18  contest conducted by the applicant, 
  1.19  the applicant must furnish the commissioner evidence of 
  1.20  financial responsibility in the form of a surety bond or bank 
  1.21  letter of credit in the amount of $25,000.  Permits must be 
  1.22  issued without a fee and if the commissioner does not deny the 
  1.23  permit within 14 days, excluding holidays, after receipt of an 
  1.24  application, the permit is granted.
