A bill for an act
relating to education; suspending academic standards review cycle; requiring a
report.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. ACADEMIC STANDARDS REVIEW SUSPENSION.

Subdivision 1.

Standards review cycle suspension.

Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes,
section 120B.021, and except as provided under subdivision 2, the commissioner of education
must suspend any ongoing review or revision of academic standards, or implementation of
revised academic standards under Minnesota Statutes, section 120B.021, until June 1, 2022.

Subd. 2.

Report.

The commissioner of education must review current academic standards
under Minnesota Statutes, section 120B.021, and, with stakeholder input, assess the standards
for relevance and rigor. By January 1, 2022, the commissioner must submit a report to the
chairs and ranking minority members of the legislative committees having jurisdiction over
education policy summarizing the commissioner's findings and making a recommendation
on whether to modify the ten-year cycle for reviewing and revising standards.

EFFECTIVE DATE.

This section is effective the day following final enactment.
