  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to general assistance; requiring social 
  1.3             security numbers as a condition of eligibility; 
  1.4             requiring the county agency to verify the alien status 
  1.5             of noncitizens; proposing coding for new law in 
  1.6             Minnesota Statutes, chapter 256D. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [256D.045] [SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS.] 
  1.9      In order to be eligible for assistance under sections 
  1.10  256D.01 to 256D.21, an individual's social security number must 
  1.11  be provided to the county agency.  The provisions of this 
  1.12  section do not apply to the determination of eligibility for 
  1.13  emergency general assistance under section 256D.06, subdivision 
  1.14  2. 
  1.15     Sec. 2.  [256D.046] [ALIEN STATUS.] 
  1.16     The county agency shall require applicants and recipients 
  1.17  of assistance under sections 256D.01 to 256D.21 to provide 
  1.18  verification of their citizenship or alien status.  Individuals 
  1.19  without proper documentation, who appear to be illegal aliens, 
  1.20  shall be reported to the nearest office of the federal 
  1.21  Immigration and Naturalization Service.
