A bill for an act
proposing an amendment to the Minnesota Constitution, article I, by adding a
section; providing for equality of rights under the law for men and women.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

new text begin The following amendment to the Minnesota Constitution, article I, is proposed to the
people. If the amendment is adopted, a new section will read as follows:

new text begin Sec. 18. new text end

new text begin Equality of rights under the law shall not be abridged or denied by the state of
Minnesota or any of its political subdivisions on account of gender. The legislature may
enforce the provisions of this section by appropriate legislation.

Sec. 2. new text begin SUBMISSION TO VOTERS.

new text begin The proposed amendment must be submitted to the people at the 2008 general
election. If ratified, the amendment is effective November 1, 2010. The question
submitted shall be:

equality of rights under the law?
