E Establishing standards for employer activities to reduce occupational exposure
to bloodborne pathogens through sharps injuries; requiring employers to comply
with certain federal regulations to eliminate or minimize employee exposure;
requiring written exposure control plans prepared by employers to be annually
reviewed for certain changes in technology, to reflect new or modified tasks and
procedures affecting occupational exposures and new or revised employee
positions with occupational exposure and to document consideration and
implementation of commercially available and effective engineering controls for
eliminating or minimizing exposure; requiring safety committees to make advisory
recommendations for effective engineering controls, requiring a certain portion
of the members of the safety committees to be employee representatives of job
classifications encountering devices in the category evaluated, authorizing
employers to establish subcommittees of safety committees with the same
membership representation to meet the requirements, employers not required to
establish safety committees to involve employees in evaluation of the controls;
temporarily allowing the use of prefilled syringes approved by the federal food
and drug administration (FDA); requiring employers to establish internal
procedures to document exposure, specifying certain content requirements (mk,
