E Authorizing the installation of approved lap or lap and shoulder seat belts on
school buses; requiring the commissioner of transportation (DOT) to prescribe
standards for design and installation of the belts; requiring passengers on
school buses equipped with the belts to use the belts, requiring parental notice
for exemption; exempting school bus operators from liability for the failure of
injured parties to wear seat belts in actions for personal injury or wrongful
death against school districts, exceptions; specifying a minimum seat back
height requirement for school buses manufactured after a certain date with lap
or lap and shoulder belts and authorizing a certain length; requiring school bus
safety training in schools to provide appropriate training on the use of the
belts; requiring the model school bus safety training program of the
commissioner of children, families and learning to include information on the
appropriate use of the belts; requiring school boards adopting a policy
requiring the use of seat belts on school buses to annually notify parents or
guardians of the policy and training procedures (ra, ja)
