A bill for an act
relating to health; appropriating money to the health professional education loan
forgiveness program for physicians licensed to practice medicine in the area of
obstetrics and gynecology.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

EDUCATION LOAN FORGIVENESS.

new text begin Notwithstanding the priorities and distribution requirements under Minnesota Statutes,
section 144.1501, $....... in fiscal year 2027 and $....... in fiscal year 2028 are appropriated
from the general fund to the commissioner of health for the health professional education
loan forgiveness program to be used for education loan forgiveness only for individuals
who are eligible physicians licensed to practice medicine, provide care in the area of
obstetrics and gynecology, and practice in a designated rural area under Minnesota Statutes,
section 144.1501. Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 144.1501, subdivision 2,
paragraph (b), if the commissioner of health does not receive enough qualified applicants
within each biennium, the remaining funds must be carried over to the next biennium and
allocated proportionally among the other eligible professions in accordance with Minnesota
Statutes, section 144.1501, subdivision 2.
