A bill for an act
relating to transportation; appropriating money for an interchange project on
Interstate Highway 94 near the Lake Burgen rest area in Douglas County.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 94 AND LAKE BURGEN REST AREA
INTERCHANGE; APPROPRIATION.

new text begin $1,500,000 in fiscal year 2026 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner
of transportation for preliminary engineering for an interchange project on marked Interstate
Highway 94 near the Lake Burgen rest area in Douglas County. This project must use either
the existing Douglas County State-Aid Highway 23 or existing Douglas County State-Aid
Highway 17 infrastructure as determined by (1) anticipated local growth over the next 50
years, and (2) engagement with local officials to determine which of these two locations is
the best cost value after considering the future growth expectations of this area. This is a
onetime appropriation and is available until June 30, 2029.
