A bill for an act
relating to human services; expanding medical assistance hospice service coverage
to include room and board; amending Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 256B.0625,
subdivision 22.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Section 1.
Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 256B.0625, subdivision 22, is amended to
read:
Subd. 22.
Hospice care.
new text begin (a) new text end Medical assistance covers hospice care services under Public
Law 99-272, section 9505, to the extent authorized by rule, except thatnew text begin :

new text begin (1) new text end a recipient age 21 or under who elects to receive hospice services does not waive
coverage for services that are related to the treatment of the condition for which a diagnosis
of terminal illness has been madedeleted text begin .deleted text end new text begin ; and

(2) room and board expenses are covered for persons receiving hospice services in a
community-based setting, to the extent room and board expenses are not otherwise covered
under this chapter or chapter 256I.

new text begin (b) new text end Hospice respite and end-of-life care under subdivision 22a are not hospice care
services under this subdivision.
