A bill for an act
relating to public safety; increasing the penalties for engaging in prostitution with
minors; amending Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 609.324, subdivision 1.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 609.324, subdivision 1, is amended to read:

Subdivision 1.

Engaging in, hiring, or agreeing to hire minor to engage in
prostitution; penalties.

(a) new text begin Whoever intentionally engages in prostitution with an individual
under the age of 14 years may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than 30 years or
to payment of a fine of not more than $40,000, or both.

new text begin (b) new text end Whoever intentionally does any of the following may be sentenced to imprisonment
for not more than 20 years or to payment of a fine of not more than $40,000, or both:

in sexual penetration or sexual contact; or

to be under the age of 14 years to engage in sexual penetration or sexual contact.

16 years but at least 14 years may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than 15 years
or to payment of a fine of not more than $30,000, or both.
