A bill for an act
relating to state lands; requiring approval of the use of state money to acquire real
property in fee; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 16B.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

REQUIRED.

new text begin (a) No person, agency, political subdivision, or other entity may acquire real property
in fee if the property is paid for in whole or in part with state money unless the acquisition
is approved by:

new text begin (1) the legislature during a regular session; and
new text end

new text begin (2) the board of commissioners of the county in which the property is located.

new text begin (b) If the real property to be acquired is located in more than one county, then the approval
of the board of commissioners of all counties in which the property is located is required.

new text begin (c) In lieu of approving or declining to approve an acquisition under this section, the
board of commissioners of a county may put the question to a vote of the people through a
ballot question under section 375.20.
