A House resolution
recognizing April 11, 2025, as Shaken Baby Prevention Day in the State of Minnesota.
WHEREAS, each year, dozens of babies in Minnesota are shaken and abused by a trusted
caregiver; and
WHEREAS, Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) or Abusive Head Trauma (AHT) kills 25 percent
of its victims and leaves 70 percent of survivors with some form of neurological impairment. Zero
percent of survivors will be able to live independently; and
WHEREAS, SBS/AHT is 100 percent preventable; and
WHEREAS, putting a baby down and letting them cry in a safe space is okay. Taking a break
from a crying baby by walking out of the room or calling a friend or family member is the best way
to prevent SBS/AHT; and
WHEREAS, public education is critical for caregivers to understand that it is normal for
young babies to cry and that caregivers should seek ways to calm themselves when getting frustrated;
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the State of Minnesota that it
recognizes April 11, 2025, as Shaken Baby Prevention Day in the State of Minnesota.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives is
directed to prepare an enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by his signature and that
of the Speaker, and transmit it to Never Shake Minnesota.
