A bill for an act
relating to the legislature; requiring members of public safety policy and finance
committees to participate in ride alongs with law enforcement or fire departments;
requiring reports; requiring adoption of legislative rules; proposing coding for new
law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 3.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin [3.057] PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE MEMBERS.

new text begin (a) A member of the legislature who serves on a legislative committee with jurisdiction
over public safety policy or finance must participate in a ride along with law enforcement
or a fire department for at least 12 hours each biennium.

new text begin (b) A member of the house of representatives must report to the speaker of the house,
and a member of the senate must report to the senate majority leader, the following
information for each ride along: (1) the date and time; and (2) the name and department of
each law enforcement officer or firefighter with whom the member rode along. The
Legislative Reference Library must publish each member report on its website.
