A bill for an act
relating to state employees; mandating a minimum wage for certain state interns;
proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 43A.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin A state intern is eligible for a minimum wage of at least $15 per hour if the state intern
is eligible to receive a federal Pell Grant based on the federal needs analysis and is enrolled
for nine semester credits per term or more, or the equivalent. For purposes of this section,
state intern has the meaning given under section 43A.02, subdivision 24, and includes an
intern working in a designated internship for the executive, legislative, or judicial branch.
This section does not apply to state interns who meet the criteria for an unpaid internship
under federal labor laws.
