A bill for an act
relating to elections; prohibiting counties, municipalities, and school districts from
accepting certain contributions for election expenses; amending Minnesota Statutes
2020, section 204B.32, by adding a subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2020, section 204B.32, is amended by adding a subdivision
to read:

new text begin Contributions for election expenses prohibited. new text end

new text begin Notwithstanding any home
rule charter or local ordinance to the contrary, a county, municipality, or school district may
not accept a contribution, in any form, from a for-profit business or a nonprofit organization
made for the purpose of paying expenses associated with conducting a federal, state, or
local election.
