relating to natural resources; appropriating money for buckthorn research.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin BUCKTHORN RESEARCH; APPROPRIATION.

new text begin (a) $500,000 in fiscal year 2023 is appropriated from the general fund to the Board of
Regents of the University of Minnesota for the Minnesota Invasive Terrestrial Plants and
Pests Center to:

new text begin (1) conduct a longitudinal study to monitor how buckthorn performs in complex woodland
systems; and
new text end

new text begin (2) develop regional approaches to native vegetation management after buckthorn
removal.

new text begin (b) This is a onetime appropriation and is available until June 30, 2027.
