A bill for an act
relating to corrections; prohibiting the commissioner of corrections from closing
or reducing staffing for the Willow River Challenge Incarceration Program;
amending Minnesota Statutes 2018, section 244.172, by adding a subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2018, section 244.172, is amended by adding a subdivision
to read:

new text begin Prohibition on closing or staff reductions. new text end

new text begin The commissioner may not close
or move the program from the Willow River facility. In addition, the commissioner shall
maintain the level of staffing at the Willow River facility at or above the staffing level from
January 1, 2020.

new text begin This section is effective the day following final
enactment and expires on July 1, 2022.
