A bill for an act
relating to environment; prohibiting restaurants from providing single-use plastic
straws to customers except upon request; proposing coding for new law in
Minnesota Statutes, chapter 325F.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

For purposes of this section, "restaurant" means a food and
beverage service establishment, whether the establishment serves alcoholic or nonalcoholic
beverages, that operates from a location for more than 21 days annually. Restaurant does
not include a food cart or a mobile food unit.

new text begin Providing single-use plastic straws. new text end

A restaurant must not provide a single-use
plastic straw to a customer unless the customer requests a straw or selects a straw from a
self-service dispenser. Nothing in this section precludes a restaurant from providing customers
with nonplastic straws as an alternative to single-use plastic straws, including but not limited
to straws made from paper, sugar cane, or bamboo.
