A bill for an act
relating to public safety; appropriating money for a grant for legal representation
of children in need of protection or services or in foster care.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; LEGAL REPRESENTATION OF CHILDREN.

new text begin $500,000 in fiscal year 2017 is appropriated from the general fund to the
commissioner of public safety for a grant to an organization that provides legal
representation to children in need of protection or services and children in out-of-home
placement. The grant is contingent upon a match in an equal amount from nonstate
funds. The match may be in kind, including the value of volunteer attorney time, or in
cash, or in a combination of the two. This appropriation is added to the base for the
Office of Justice Programs.
