Providing and modifying firearms and ammunition regulations to keep firearms out of the hands of persons who are mentally ill or prohibited from possessing firearms; regulating the lawful possession, purchase, and transfer of firearms and ammunition; requiring timely transmittal of civil commitment, law enforcement, and court data to certain state and federal searchable databases; specifying certain duties of the commissioner of corrections relating to the transfer of fingerprint records of offenders from other states; expanding certain duties of the commissioner of human services relating to the transmittal of mental health commitment information for firearms and explosives background check purposes; directing courts to submit mental health adjudication data to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS); modifying and specifying certain bureau of criminal apprehension (BCA) duties and recordkeeping provisions, requiring the conversion of criminal justice agencies data into electronic format in a specified period of time, requiring local law enforcement agencies to submit electronic fingerprint records to state and or federal searchable databases, requiring the BCA to enter alias data information for persons listed in the offender database, requiring sheriffs and the commissioner of corrections to enter specified data about soon to be released offenders, requiring a court administrator to provide the BCA with certain sentencing information; requiring local law enforcement agencies to submit criminal records electronically to CIBRS within a specified period of time of collecting or receiving records; establishing mandatory minimum sentences for felons subsequently convicted for illegally possession firearms; establishing the offense of falsely reporting the loss or theft of a firearm and an offense for subsequent violations; modifying and expanding the definition of crime of violence; defining ammunition for gun control purposes; establishing mandatory minimum sentences for felons subsequently convicted for illegally possessing
firearms; requiring prompt reporting of disqualifying mental health data by
courts; specifying certain court notification requirements for firearms
