A bill for an act
relating to veterans; establishing a veterans homes special revenue account;
authorizing the commissioner of veterans affairs to accept federal funds for
certain purposes; authorizing the use of profits from work therapy programs
for the benefit of veterans homes; amending Minnesota Statutes 2010, sections
198.003, by adding a subdivision; 198.261; proposing coding for new law in
Minnesota Statutes, chapter 196.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

of this chapter.

Sec. 2.

Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 198.003, is amended by adding a subdivision
to read:

new text begin General fund appropriations deposited in veterans homes special
revenue account. new text end

new text begin General fund appropriations made to the commissioner for the care
of veterans in a veterans home must be deposited into a dedicated account in the special
revenue fund. Money in the account is appropriated to the commissioner for the operation
of veterans homes and programs.

Sec. 3.

Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 198.261, is amended to read:

198.261 CANTEEN, COFFEE SHOP, deleted text begin AND deleted text end WOOD SHOP new text begin , AND OTHER
WORK THERAPY PROGRAMS new text end .

Any profits derived from the operation of canteens, coffee shops, deleted text begin and deleted text end wood shops new text begin ,
and other work therapy programs new text end at the Minnesota veterans homes shall be used by the
commissioner only for the direct benefit of the residents of the homes.
