A bill for an act
relating to crimes; making careless driving resulting in death a gross
misdemeanor; amending Minnesota Statutes 2008, section 169.13, by adding a
subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2008, section 169.13, is amended by adding a
subdivision to read:

new text begin Careless driving resulting in death. new text end

new text begin (a) A person who commits a
careless driving violation under subdivision 2 that results in the death of a person is guilty
of a gross misdemeanor.

new text begin (b) Nothing in this subdivision or section 609.035 limits the power of the state to
punish a person for conduct that constitutes a crime under any other statute.
