1.3BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.6new text begin (a) Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, an eligible structure described in new text end
1.7new text begin paragraph (c) shall be exempted from compliance with the following automatic sprinkler new text end
1.8new text begin system provisions:new text end
1.9new text begin (1) the sprinkler system provision of the 2006 edition of the International Building new text end
1.10new text begin Code, section 903.2.1.2, as adopted by the State Building Code; andnew text end
1.11new text begin (2) the sprinkler system provision of the 2006 edition of the International Fire Code, new text end
1.12new text begin section 903.2.1.2, as adopted by the State Fire Code.new text end
1.13new text begin (b) An eligible structure described in paragraph (c) that is exempt from and does not new text end
1.14new text begin comply with the automatic sprinkler system provisions described in paragraph (a) shall new text end
1.15new text begin comply with the following requirements in addition to the requirements of any other law:new text end
1.16new text begin (1) the structure must have at least two times the minimum required exit width in new text end
1.17new text begin permanently installed exit doors than the State Building Code or State Fire Code requires;new text end
1.18new text begin (2) at any time that the structure is occupied by more than 100 people, it shall have a new text end
1.19new text begin fire pumper with a rated capacity of at least 1,250 gallons per minute, a 1,000 gallon or new text end
1.20new text begin larger booster tank, and two firefighters providing firewatch duty; andnew text end
1.21new text begin (3) the structure and the exemptions provided in this section must be approved in new text end
1.22new text begin writing by the state fire marshal.new text end
1.23new text begin (c) An eligible structure is one that:new text end
2.1new text begin (1) is located in Redwood County and is on the property known as the Gilfillan new text end
2.2new text begin Estate;new text end
2.3new text begin (2) is owned by a historical society formed in 1949;new text end
2.4new text begin (3) is currently less than 2,800 square feet in total area with an occupant load of new text end
2.5new text begin fewer than 200 occupants, and, after expansion and renovation, will be less than 7,000 new text end
2.6new text begin square feet in total area with an occupant load of fewer than 400 occupants;new text end
2.7new text begin (4) has use and occupancy classification codes of "A-2" and "B" under the 2006 new text end
2.8new text begin edition of the International Building Code, as adopted by the State Building Code; andnew text end
2.9new text begin (5) was built in 1998.new text end
2.10new text begin (d) For purposes of certification of plans pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, section new text end
2.11new text begin 326.03, subdivision 1, and Minnesota Rules, chapters 1800 and 1805, if an architecture new text end
2.12new text begin plan of a structure otherwise complies with applicable laws, ordinances, and building new text end
2.13new text begin codes relating to design, any plan relating to a structure described in paragraph (c) that new text end
2.14new text begin does not include plans for an automatic sprinkler system exempted in paragraph (a) shall be new text end
2.15new text begin deemed to comply with applicable laws, ordinances, and building codes relating to design.new text end
2.16new text begin (e) The exemption provided in this section expires July 1, 2019.new text end
