1.1A bill for an act 1.2relating to transportation; restricting transportation on and near the Stillwater 1.3Lift Bridge. 1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.5    Section 1. new text begin PROHIBITION OF TRUCKS ON STILLWATER LIFT BRIDGE. new text end 1.6 new text begin (a) For purposes of this section, "total length" means the overall length of the motor new text end 1.7 new text begin vehicle including (1) bumpers and load, and (2) the length of any semitrailer, as defined new text end 1.8 new text begin in Minnesota Statutes, section 168.002, subdivision 30, and any trailer, as defined in new text end 1.9 new text begin Minnesota Statutes, section 168.002, subdivision 35. new text end 1.10 new text begin (b) The commissioner of transportation shall prohibit the operation of motor vehicles new text end 1.11 new text begin that exceed a total length of 55 feet on that portion of marked Trunk Highway 36 from the new text end 1.12 new text begin intersection with marked Trunk Highway 95 and Washington County State-Aid Highway new text end 1.13 new text begin 23 in Stillwater, to the Stillwater Lift Bridge, located on marked Trunk Highway 36 over new text end 1.14 new text begin the St. Croix River in Stillwater. The commissioner shall erect signs at appropriate new text end 1.15 new text begin locations giving notice of this prohibition, and shall request that the state of Wisconsin new text end 1.16 new text begin post similar signs on the Wisconsin side of the bridge. new text end 1.17 new text begin (c) The prohibition in paragraph (b) does not apply to emergency vehicles and new text end 1.18 new text begin motor vehicles while engaged in work on the bridge, including snow and ice removal new text end 1.19 new text begin and flood control. new text end 1.20 new text begin (d) The prohibition in paragraph (b) does not apply to the Stillwater Lift Bridge. new text end 1.21 new text begin EFFECTIVE DATE. new text end new text begin This section is effective the day the commissioner erects new text end 1.22 new text begin signs giving notice of the prohibition established in this section. new text end
