1.1A bill for an act 1.2relating to veterans; authorizing commissioner of public safety to dispose 1.3of unused special veterans' license plates;proposing coding for new law in 1.4Minnesota Statutes, chapter 168. 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.6    Section 1. new text begin [168.1234] DISPOSING OF UNUSED VETERANS LICENSE PLATES.new text end 1.7    new text begin Subdivision 1.new text end new text begin Definitions.new text end new text begin For purposes of this section, the following terms have new text end 1.8new text begin the meanings given them:new text end 1.9new text begin (a) "Unused veteran's license plate type" means any type of special veteran's license new text end 1.10new text begin plate authorized under section 168.123, subdivision 2, paragraphs (a) to (d) and (f) to (i), new text end 1.11new text begin for which the commissioner of veterans affairs has determined that the eligible population new text end 1.12new text begin of veterans has ceased to exist within Minnesota, and for which the commissioner of new text end 1.13new text begin public safety has determined that there are no registered vehicles bearing such plates new text end 1.14new text begin within the state.new text end 1.15new text begin (b) "Veteran" has the meaning assigned in section 197.447.new text end 1.16    new text begin Subd. 2.new text end new text begin Authority to dispose of unused plates.new text end new text begin (a) Notwithstanding any other new text end 1.17new text begin provision of this chapter, the commissioner of public safety is authorized to discontinue the new text end 1.18new text begin sale of any unused special veteran's license plate type. Remaining stock of discontinued new text end 1.19new text begin special veterans' plates must be transferred to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
