A bill for an act
relating to higher education; providing funding to the Board of Regents of the
University of Minnesota to support competitive compensation; appropriating
money.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA.

new text begin $9,800,000 in fiscal year 2008 and $18,700,000 in fiscal year 2009 are appropriated
from the general fund to the Board of Regents of the University of Minnesota to support
the continuing efforts to maintain and improve its excellence in research, education, and
outreach, especially in targeted areas where the University of Minnesota has a comparative
advantage and that are consistent with the University of Minnesota's strategic goals. This
will improve the University of Minnesota's ability both to recruit talented new faculty and
researchers, and to retain its distinguished faculty and researchers by providing resources
it can use to give special compensation to this targeted group.
