A bill for an act
relating to economic development; appropriating money for emergency
assistance and transitional housing.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION.

new text begin $9,250,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of human
services to be available until June 30, 2009. Of this appropriation:

new text begin (1) $6,000,000 is for transitional housing programs under Minnesota Statutes,
section 256E.33. Up to ten percent of this appropriation may be used for housing and
services which extend beyond 24 months; and

new text begin (2) $3,250,000 is for emergency services grants under Laws 1997, chapter 162,
article 3, section 7.

new text begin No more than five percent of this appropriation is available for administering the
grants. This appropriation is in addition to any base appropriations funding and shall
become part of the agency's base.
