A bill for an act
relating to local government; permitting political subdivisions to fly the
American flag at half-staff on certain occasions; proposing coding for new law in
Minnesota Statutes, chapter 1.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Section 1.

[1.52] FLAGS FLOWN AT HALF-STAFF BY LOCAL GOVERNING
BODY.

The elected governing body of a political subdivision of the state may decide to fly
the American flag and Minnesota flag, which is flown at a site under control of the political
subdivision, at half-staff following the death of a current or retired municipal official,
employee, or public safety officer as defined in section 299A.41, subdivision 4. The flags
may be flown at half-staff for the period of time designated by the governing body.
