SF 2210 Senate Long Description

Relating to public safety; creating a fire safety account to be used by the divisions of homeland security emergency management and fire marshal in the department of public safety for certain programs and costs; requiring insurance companies writing homeowners or commercial fire insurance policies in the state to collect an annual premium surcharge for transfer to the commissioner of public safety for deposit in the account, exempting farmers mutual or township fire insurance companies and authorizing certain mutual property and casualty insurers and reinsurers to remit a tax on gross fire premiums and assessments in lieu of the surcharge to the commissioner; authorizing use of revenues in the account by the division of homeland security emergency management for hazardous materials response and state structural collapse teams activities and programs, by the division of fire marshal for operation of the division, for certain activities and programs and for certain fire service and public education purposes and by the commissioner for fire training and education programs; requiring annual reporting to the legislature of unspent funds; repealing the fire insurance tax
