SF 1365 Senate Long Description

Relating to education; expanding eligibility for early childhood developmental screening to certain younger children and requiring and providing for the inclusion of socioemotional development screening in the programs, requiring commissioner of human services approval of the screening instrument; providing for follow up screening of children with an indicated need for further assessment, school districts not to be financially responsible for mental health diagnostic assessments and prohibiting the inclusion of student mental health screening results in student records; basing the amount of developmental screening aid on the age of the child screened; expanding the definition of child with a disability for special education purposes to children with emotional disturbance; requiring school officials to notify the parents or legal guardians of children of the availability of assessment or mental health screening for behavior contributing to continuing truancy; authorizing the inclusion of mental health screenings and classroom modifications and accommodations in community based action projects and truancy service center referrals to mental health providers
