  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; allowing schools to charge fees 
  1.3             to secondary students taking concurrent courses for 
  1.4             credit; amending Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 
  1.5             124D.09, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 124D.09, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 27.  [ALLOWABLE FEES FOR CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT 
  1.10  COURSES.] Notwithstanding any other law under this section or 
  1.11  section 123B.26 or 123B.27, a school may charge tuition to an 
  1.12  11th or 12th grade student taking a concurrent enrollment course 
  1.13  that is taught at the student's school during the regular school 
  1.14  day under an agreement between the school and the postsecondary 
  1.15  institution.  The course must be taught by a certified high 
  1.16  school teacher who has an agreement with the postsecondary 
  1.17  institution to teach the course.  A student successfully 
  1.18  completing a course under this subdivision must be offered 
  1.19  academic credit from both the high school and the postsecondary 
  1.20  institution.  A school may not charge an amount under this 
  1.21  subdivision that exceeds the actual tuition amount for the 
  1.22  course, minus any other state aid received on behalf of the 
  1.23  student for taking a postsecondary course.
