  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to the judiciary; imposing a temporary 
  1.3             reduction in judge positions. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [TEMPORARY REDUCTION IN JUDGE POSITIONS.] 
  1.6      The reductions in complement provided for in this section 
  1.7   apply only during the period ending June 30, 2007; on July 1, 
  1.8   2007, the complements are restored to the numbers shown in 
  1.9   Minnesota Statutes.  
  1.10     Upon the occurrence of a vacancy in the position of judge 
  1.11  of the court of appeals, district court, tax court, or workers' 
  1.12  compensation court of appeals, the statutory complement of the 
  1.13  court is reduced accordingly, unless the supreme court 
  1.14  determines that continuation of the position is essential to the 
  1.15  conduct of justice and that determination is approved by an act 
  1.16  of the legislature.  
  1.17     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.18     This act is effective the day following final enactment.
