  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to corrections; proposing coding for new law 
  1.3             in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 243. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [243.557] [INMATE FOOD.] 
  1.6      Subdivision 1.  [FREQUENCY OF MEALS.] Where inmates in a 
  1.7   state correctional facility are not routinely absent from the 
  1.8   facility for work or other purposes, the commissioner must make 
  1.9   three meals available Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, 
  1.10  and two meals available on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. 
  1.11     Subd. 2.  [DESSERTS.] The commissioner must not provide 
  1.12  desserts to inmates in state correctional facilities. 
  1.13     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective July 1, 2003.
