  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to crime prevention; appropriating money for 
  1.3             grants related to restorative justice programs. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.6      $....... is appropriated for the fiscal year ending June 
  1.7   30, 2002, and $....... is appropriated for the fiscal year 
  1.8   ending June 30, 2003, from the general fund to the commissioner 
  1.9   of corrections for grants related to restorative justice 
  1.10  programs as defined in Minnesota Statutes, section 611A.775. 
  1.11  Grant awards must be allocated in a balanced manner among rural, 
  1.12  suburban, and urban organizations operating restorative justice 
  1.13  programs.  Preference must be given to organizations or programs 
  1.14  that: 
  1.15     (1) are currently operating and have had successful 
  1.16  results; 
  1.17     (2) are community-based; and 
  1.18     (3) are supported by both private and public funding.
