1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to municipalities; limiting tort liability 1.3 for geographic information systems information; 1.4 amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 466.03, by 1.5 adding a subdivision. 1.6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.7 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 466.03, is 1.8 amended by adding a subdivision to read: 1.9 Subd. 21. [GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS.] Any claim 1.10 arising from alleged or actual inaccuracies in information from 1.11 geographic information systems (GIS) used by the public; if the 1.12 municipality provides a disclaimer of accuracy of the 1.13 information at any point of initial contact with a geographic 1.14 information system to which the public has general access. GIS 1.15 information includes information generated from an organized 1.16 collection of computer hardware, software, and geographic data 1.17 designed to efficiently capture, store, update, manipulate, 1.18 analyze, and display all forms of geographically referenced 1.19 information and compiled for use by a municipality, either alone 1.20 or with other entities, public or private. GIS data is accurate 1.21 for its intended use by a municipality and may be inaccurate for 1.22 other uses. 1.23 Sec. 2. [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 1.24 Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment 1.25 and applies to causes of action arising on or after that date.
