  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to data practices; classifying voter 
  1.3             registration lists as private data; amending Minnesota 
  1.4             Statutes 1998, section 201.091, subdivision 1; 
  1.5             repealing Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 201.091, 
  1.6             subdivisions 4 and 5. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 201.091, 
  1.9   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.10     Subdivision 1.  [MASTER LIST.] Each county auditor shall 
  1.11  prepare and maintain a current list of registered voters in each 
  1.12  precinct in the county which is known as the master list.  The 
  1.13  master list must be created by entering each completed voter 
  1.14  registration card received by the county auditor into the 
  1.15  statewide registration system.  It must show the name, residence 
  1.16  address, and date of birth of each voter registered in the 
  1.17  precinct.  The information contained in the master list is 
  1.18  private data on individuals as defined in section 13.02 but may 
  1.19  only be made available to public officials for purposes related 
  1.20  to election administration, jury selection, and in response to a 
  1.21  law enforcement inquiry concerning a violation of or failure to 
  1.22  comply with any criminal statute or state or local tax statute. 
  1.23     Sec. 2.  [REPEALER.] 
  1.24     Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 201.091, subdivisions 4 
  1.25  and 5, are repealed.
