  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; providing for an alternative 
  1.3             calendar demonstration project in independent school 
  1.4             district No. 624, White Bear Lake; appropriating money.
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [ALTERNATIVE CALENDAR DEMONSTRATION PROJECT.] 
  1.7      An alternative calendar demonstration project is 
  1.8   established in independent school district No. 624, White Bear 
  1.9   Lake, to generate, test, and disseminate models of best 
  1.10  practices for extended learning and year-round programs. 
  1.11     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.12     $250,000 in fiscal year 2000 and $250,000 in fiscal year 
  1.13  2001 are appropriated from the general fund to the department of 
  1.14  children, families, and learning for an alternative calendar 
  1.15  demonstration project grant to independent school district No. 
  1.16  624, White Bear Lake.  Any balance in the first year does not 
  1.17  cancel but is available in the second year.
