  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; providing for a youth 
  1.3             recreation levy; amending Minnesota Statutes 1996, 
  1.4             section 124.2713, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 124.2713, is 
  1.7   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.8      Subd. 5a.  [YOUTH RECREATION LEVY.] A school district may 
  1.9   levy an amount equal to $4 times the population of the 
  1.10  district.  Levy revenue under this subdivision shall not be 
  1.11  included as revenue under subdivision 1.  The revenue shall be 
  1.12  used to establish and maintain recreational opportunities for 
  1.13  school-age youth.
