1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to firearms; requiring firearms dealers to 1.3 keep a list of pistol serial numbers and to give the 1.4 purchaser of the pistol the serial number on request 1.5 and at no charge; amending Minnesota Statutes 1996, 1.6 section 624.7162, by adding a subdivision. 1.7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.8 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 624.7162, is 1.9 amended by adding a subdivision to read: 1.10 Subd. 2a. [LIST OF PISTOL SERIAL NUMBERS.] Every firearms 1.11 dealer must keep a list of the serial number of each pistol the 1.12 dealer sells and the name of the person to whom the pistol was 1.13 sold. Upon request by the pistol purchaser, the dealer must 1.14 provide the purchaser with the pistol's serial number at no 1.15 charge. As used in this section, "serial number" means the 1.16 serial number and other information required under United States 1.17 Code, title 26, section 5842, for the identification of firearms.
