Introduction - 80th Legislature, 1997 3rd Special Session

  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to highways; prohibiting commissioner of 
  1.3             transportation from establishing or maintaining 
  1.4             high-occupancy vehicle lanes on freeways and 
  1.5             expressways; making technical changes; amending 
  1.6             Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 169.305, subdivision 
  1.7             3, and by adding a subdivision; repealing Minnesota 
  1.8             Statutes 1996, section 473.168. 
  1.9   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.10     Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 169.305, 
  1.11  subdivision 3, is amended to read: 
  1.12     Subd. 3.  [PENALTY.] Any person violating the provisions of 
  1.13  this section subdivision 1 or 2 or any order or ordinance rule 
  1.14  issued or promulgated or enacted by the commissioner of 
  1.15  transportation or ordinance enacted by a public authority 
  1.16  pursuant thereto to subdivision 1 or 2 is guilty of a petty 
  1.17  misdemeanor. 
  1.18     Sec. 2.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 169.305, is 
  1.19  amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.20     Subd. 4.  [HIGH-OCCUPANCY VEHICLE LANES.] The commissioner 
  1.21  may not establish or maintain on a freeway or expressway, as 
  1.22  defined in section 160.02, subdivision 16, any lane, other than 
  1.23  an entrance ramp, that is designated exclusively or primarily 
  1.24  for buses or other high-occupancy vehicles. 
  1.25     Sec. 3.  [REPEALER.] 
  1.26     Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 473.168, is repealed.
